Singapore Airlines August 2014 Operating Results
In August 2014, Singapore Airlines’ systemwide passenger carriage (measured in revenue passenger kilometres) increased 0.3% against capacity reduction (measured in available seat kilometres) of 0.5%, resulting in a 0.7 percentage-point improvement in passenger load factor (PLF) to 83.1%. The number of passengers carried increased by 1.9% year-on-year to 1.7 million.
Demand was strong for South West Pacific. Passenger carriage for East Asia and West Asia and Africa increased, albeit at a lower pace than capacity growth. PLF for Americas declined due to weaker demand. The operating environment remains challenging. Capacity will be adjusted accordingly to better match market demand and promotional activities shall continue in markets that require additional support.
SilkAir’s systemwide passenger carriage increased 3.7% year-on-year against 4.0% growth in capacity. As a result, PLF decreased by 0.2 percentage points to 71.5%. Passenger carriage grew on routes in the East Asia and Pacific region but lagged behind capacity growth. PLF for the West Asia region improved with capacity adjustment.
Overall cargo load factor increased by 1.2 percentage point to 61.3%. Cargo traffic (measured in freight-tonne-kilometres) was 3.8% lower against a 5.7% reduction in capacity. Load factors improved across all route regions except for Europe, where traffic did not keep pace with changes in capacity.
