Singapore Airlines January 2013 Operating Results

LOS ANGELES, February 15, 2013 – The operating results for January 2013 are given in the table below.

In January 2013, Singapore Airlines’ systemwide passenger carriage (measured in revenue passenger kilometres) grew 3.4% against a 1.7% increase in capacity (measured in available seat kilometres). As a result, passenger load factor (PLF) improved by 1.3 percentage points to 78.3%. The number of passengers carried increased by 2.5% to 1.5 million.

Sytemwide PLF improved across all regions with the exception of South West Pacific where growth in demand was outstripped by the increase in capacity. Passenger yields are likely to continue to come under pressure due to promotional fare activities.

SilkAir’s systemwide passenger carriage increased 2.5% year-on-year against 15.6% growth in capacity. As a result, PLF was 8.7 percentage points lower. Owing to a shift in the Lunar New Year holidays from January to February this year, PLF for East Asia routes declined 10.5 percentage points. PLF for West Asia declined by 4.5 percentage points as traffic growth lagged capacity increases.

Overall cargo traffic (measured in freight-ton-kilometres) grew 3.0% year-on-year, while capacity decreased by 0.8%, resulting in a 2.2 percentage-point increase in overall cargo load factor (CLF). CLFs were higher for all route regions, except the Americas where increases in cargo capacity outpaced increases in cargo traffic. CLF for the South West Pacific increased due to movements of perishables leading up to the Lunar New Year season. West Asia and Africa’s CLF improved due to increased demand for freighter services.
