SINGAPORE AIRLINES: SEPTEMBER 2013 OPERATING RESULTS

LOS ANGELES, October 16, 2013 – The operating results for September 2013 are given in the table below.

In September 2013, Singapore Airlines’ system wide passenger carriage (measured in revenue passenger kilometres) rose 1.8% on the back of a 2.6% growth in capacity (measured in available seat kilometres). Consequent to this, passenger load factor (PLF) declined by 0.7 of a percentage point to 79.9%. The number of passengers carried increased by 3.6%.

The earlier Lebaran/Hari Raya holidays this year contributed to the softer loads in September. All route regions saw PLF decline except Americas and East Asia. The operating environment remains challenging. On-going efforts to stimulate demand to boost loads will continue to place downward pressure on yields.

SilkAir’s system wide passenger carriage increased 3.5% year-on-year against 10.0% growth in capacity. Passenger carriage lagged behind capacity growth for both route regions and as a result, passenger load factor was 4.0 percentage points lower at 64.9%.

Overall cargo traffic (measured in freight-ton-kilometres) was 6.7% lower year-on-year, while cargo capacity decreased by 5.1%. Consequently, cargo load factor decreased by 1.1 percentage points. Load factors were lower for all route regions, except for Europe and Americas, as capacity changes were more closely matched to demand.
