Moscow, November 29, 2012 – Transaero Airlines operational results within the summer schedule 2012 revealed a record volume of passenger traffic for the period as well as milestones in launching new routes.
Transaero passenger turnover from April to October 2012 exceeded 26.1 billion RPK, 25% more than in the same period last year. More than 7.1 million passengers were carried, an increase of 20% over the previous summer season.
Transaero operated flights on more than 160 routes, 25% more than in the same period last year. Transaero launched 34 new routes, with 27 of them being direct nonstop international flights from the Russian regions to leisure destinations. Transaero performed flights to Barcelona from 13 Russian cities and offered services to Bangkok from 9 Russian cities. In addition, passenger traffic on Transaero’s flights between Moscow and St. Petersburg this summer doubled in comparison with the same period last year.
The launch of scheduled flights to a number of the most popular European destinations became a milestone in Transaero’s route network development. Transaero now offers flights from Moscow to Paris, Rome, Milan, and Venice and flights from St. Petersburg to Rome and Milan. The start of Transaero’s operations on those routes has increased the competition between the carriers in the markets and improved convenience of connections between Russia and Italy and France.
For the first time ever, in summer 2012 Transaero began operations from all three international airports based in Moscow – Domodedovo Airport, Sheremetyevo International Airport and Vnukovo International Airport – increasing convenience and number of connections available for its passengers.
Transaero also showed record results in cargo operations in the summer season. From April to October 2012, Transaero transported 41,570 tons of cargo and mail, 32% more than during the same period last year. Transaero ranks the fourth largest air cargo carrier in Russia.
Transaero this summer added 15 aircraft to its fleet, including four Boeing 747-400, one Boeing 767 and 10 Boeing 737 NG aircraft.
Continuing to implement the carrier’s ongoing refurbishing program, Transaero significantly increased a number of aircraft with the brand-new Alcantara covered seats installed in all classes of service.
In August 2012 Transaero became the first Russian airline to offer passengers high-speed broadband Internet via Wi-Fi and mobile communications on board. Satellite connection for Internet access has already been integrated into two Transaero aircraft – a Boeing 777-300 and a Boeing 747-400, with more Transaero aircraft in line to get the same capacity in the near future.
