GLASTONBURY, CT—(Marketwire – Feb 28, 2013) – The V2500 has the honor of powering the first North American A320 carrier — JetBlue Airways — to fly commercial service with Sharklets.
JetBlue signed a letter of intent with Airbus to acquire 110 ship-sets of retrofit Sharklets for the airline’s in-service A320 aircraft. Deliveries are scheduled to start in 2014. Last week, JetBlue unveiled the first of its A320 aircraft to be outfitted with Sharklets. Once all retrofits are completed JetBlue will have the largest A320 fleet in the world with Sharklets.
JetBlue is one of IAE’s largest operators with 127 A320 family aircraft in service. They have converted 30 of their 44 A320s on order to A321s, bringing them to a total 171 V2500-powered aircraft. JetBlue has also placed an order for 40 A320neo with the PW1100G-JM.
“JetBlue has constantly been on the leading edge when it comes to innovation and quality,” said IAE President Jon Beatty. “They were an early adopter of the V2500 SelectOneâ„¢ engine upgrade, and the Sharklet retrofits will further improve their fuel burn and emissions. IAE is proud to exclusively power their A320 family fleet.”
