WestJet reports June traffic results

CALGARY, July 6, 2011 /CNW/ – WestJet today announced June 2011 traffic results with a load factor of 75.7 per cent. Revenue passenger miles (RPMs), or traffic, increased 5.8 per cent year over year, and capacity, measured in available seat miles (ASMs), grew 9.2 per cent over the same period.

“Although loads were slightly down for June, a shoulder-season month, we are comfortable with the balance achieved between yield, growth and our load factor,” commented WestJet President and CEO Gregg Saretsky. “We are pleased with the advanced bookings for July and August, and the pricing environment continues to be strong.”

“With the school year winding down, families are gearing up for summer vacations and I thank our friendly WestJetters who will be working hard to ensure our guests have a safe and enjoyable experience during this busy flying season,” added Gregg Saretsky.

WestJet launched new, non-stop service between Calgary and Orange County-Anaheim, California, on June 13, 2011, which complements the Vancouver to Orange County service launched on May 2, 2011. Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm and the surfing hot spot of Huntington Beach are now easily accessible with daily service to the John Wayne Airport from both Calgary and Vancouver and via convenient connections from many other great Canadian cities.
