SMBC Aviation Capital to purchase three new Boeing 737-800s

25th April 2017: SMBC Aviation Capital, one of the world’s leading aircraft leasing companies, has announced that it is to purchase three Boeing 737-800s, bringing its total owned, managed and committed portfolio for B737-800s to 198.

Two of the three new aircraft will be placed on lease with Japanese airline ANA. The remaining aircraft will be placed on lease over the coming weeks. All three aircraft will be powered with CFM engines.

Commenting on the transaction, Peter Barrett, CEO of SMBC Aviation Capital said: “We are very pleased to announce this direct order from Boeing for a further three B737-800s. As the size of our portfolio of B737-800s indicates, it is an aircraft for which we see substantial demand from our customer base and which has been a core part of our offering over many years.

Above all, this transaction has come to fruition because of our strong relationship with ANA and underpins our ability to work closely with our OEM partners to deliver near term opportunities for our airline customers.”

Brad McMullen, Vice President of North America & Leasing Sales, Boeing Commercial Airplanes added: “We are pleased to announce this further collaboration with SMBC Aviation Capital which already has a significant order book with us. As always, we look forward to working together to deliver on their customers’ specific fleet requirements.”

In addition to its portfolio of B737s and B787s, SMBC Aviation Capital has an order book of 90 737 MAX 8s, with the first delivery scheduled in 2018.
