Air Cairo Selects LEAP-1A Engines for Up to 30 Additional A320neos

Air Cairo has selected CFM International LEAP-1A engines to power up to 30 additional Airbus A320neo aircraft as the Egyptian carrier continues its fleet expansion.

The agreement covers engines for 15 firm aircraft, options covering another 15, and spare engines. If all options are exercised, the transaction would represent more than 60 LEAP-1A engines.

The new commitment builds on an established CFM-powered fleet at Air Cairo. The airline currently operates 20 A320neos with LEAP-1A engines alongside 12 A320ceos powered by CFM56 engines and has used CFM products since 2005.

The engine selection supports Air Cairo’s broader fleet modernization program, increasing the number of new-generation narrowbodies in its operation while maintaining continuity with its existing LEAP-powered A320neo fleet.

CFM is also introducing durability improvements across the LEAP fleet, including a high-pressure turbine durability kit designed to increase time on wing and a reverse bleed system intended to reduce maintenance requirements.

The agreement was announced September 8 at the El Alamein International Airshow in Egypt.
