AVi8 Airways has launched with plans to establish a new ACMI, charter and cargo airline platform in Southeast Asia, targeting the start of operations in May 2027.
The Cambodia-based airline will be headquartered in Phnom Penh and plans to provide aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance (ACMI) services, passenger and cargo charter operations, scheduled passenger flights and aircraft management across the Asia-Pacific region. The initial operation is expected to focus on Cambodia and Vietnam, with operations centered on Phnom Penh International Airport and Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City.
The airline is led by aviation executive Ed Wegel, who has more than 40 years of airline leadership experience, and is supported by a management team based in Ho Chi Minh City and Phnom Penh. According to the company, the long-term objective is to build a scalable ACMI and charter airline platform, with AVi8 Airways Asia serving as the first step toward a broader global operation.
The initial fleet plan calls for Airbus A321 converted freighters alongside passenger aircraft to support airlines, governments, tour operators and businesses with flexible aviation services. AVi8 Airways said it aims to become a leading ACMI and charter provider in the Asia-Pacific region while supporting the continued growth of Southeast Asia’s aviation market.
