In its first ever self-funded investment plan, Aerolíneas Argentinas will add 18 new aircraft to its fleet

Aerolíneas Argentinas announces the launch of its first self-financed investment plan, a decision that marks a new milestone in the company’s recent history. The goal is to modernize the fleet, improve the passenger travel experience, and consolidate its profitability and market positioning strategy in both the domestic and international markets through the addition of 18 new aircraft to its Airbus and Boeing fleets, along with an investment of over US$65 million in seating capacity and connectivity.

The main asset of this plan will be the addition of four Airbus A330neo aircraft, a model with proven reliability in the long-haul segment. The transition to these aircraft is a natural step in the evolution of this segment, as they share much of their spare parts platform, simulators, and technical training with the A330ceo aircraft currently operated by the company.

These new additions will be accompanied by an upgrade of the cabin interiors of the A330ceo aircraft the company is already operating. The complete plan will culminate in a more modern and efficient fleet, with greater passenger comfort and improved company profitability.

For the narrow-body fleet, used for medium-haul and domestic flights, the airline plans to add 14 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, including two MAX8s, four MAX9s, and eight MAX10s. The MAX family of aircraft has demonstrated outstanding performance both globally and within Aerolíneas Argentinas’ fleet, which already includes 15 MAX8s. The new MAX9 and MAX10 models will allow the airline to increase profitability on high-demand routes within the country and to destinations in the region.

These aircraft will join Aerolíneas Argentinas under an operating lease, a mechanism that provides the necessary flexibility to modernize its fleet without compromising its financial stability. This will offer a significant increase in operational capacity in the short term, as well as notable improvements to the product offered to Aerolíneas Argentinas passengers.

“With this milestone, Aerolíneas Argentinas confirms its transformation into a company with the capacity for investment and growth using its own resources. We will increase our total seat capacity and consolidate a modern, efficient, and highly profitable fleet, with an attractive product for passengers who already recognize our company’s superior service quality in the region,” stated Fabián Lombardo, President and CEO of Aerolíneas Argentinas. “This plan represents a capitalization of the company through the placement of orders for the 18 aircraft, an action that will strengthen our position in the local and international markets,” he added.

In a second phase, the installation of Wi-Fi connectivity across the entire fleet is planned. The first phase will cover long-haul aircraft (A330), and will later be extended to the regional and domestic fleets (Boeing 737 and Embraer 190). This service is scheduled to begin in 2027.

As previously announced, 2025 will be the first year that Aerolíneas Argentinas will not receive any funding from the National Treasury, an unprecedented milestone since the state regained control of the company’s shares. Between 2008 and 2023, the company accumulated losses averaging USD 400 million annually, a situation reversed in 2024 with its first positive operating result (EBIT) of USD 56.6 million, confirmed in the financial statements audited by KPMG. This result is projected to double by 2025.
