TAP Air Portugal plans to add 24 new Airbus aircraft over the next two years after completing its restructuring program, allowing the airline to expand beyond the fleet limits previously imposed by the European Commission.
The carrier expects to receive 10 aircraft during 2026, including six A320neos, two A321neos and two A330neos, with the remaining deliveries scheduled through 2028. In total, TAP is due to receive 22 A320neo Family aircraft and two A330neos, increasing its operational fleet by approximately 25%.
The aircraft were originally scheduled for earlier delivery but were deferred during the COVID-19 pandemic as part of the airline’s restructuring plan. With the restructuring now formally completed, TAP is free to expand its fleet and network as it prepares for the privatization of a 44.5% stake in the airline.
The larger fleet is expected to support recently announced route additions across North America, South America and Europe, while strengthening TAP’s position ahead of the selection of a new strategic investor later this year.
