Mexico, September 29, 2016. The first of three Airbus A321s ordered by Interjet to be added to its fleet of 44 Airbus A320s and 22 Superjet 100s has arrived. “This aircraft, with more seats, will be used on high density routes operating from the Mexico City International Airport to destinations such as Cancun, Monterrey and Tijuana, which will help us to improve our operational efficiency”, said Jose Luis Garza, Interjet CEO.
Although the plane has a 230-seat capacity, Interjet has configured it for 192 passengers to continue to offer its hallmark legroom, which is the best in the industry (86 cms between rows). The aircraft is also the “First in Latin America” to have the latest entertainment system, the Panasonic Avionics “eXo”, with 12" HD screens for better on board service.
In addition, these airplanes are equipped with Sharklet fuel-saving wing tip devices for lower fuel consumption, making Interjet one of the world’s most modern air fleets. “We are excited to add one of Airbus’ most efficient and highest performing planes to our fleet”, added Jose Luis Garza.
The first plane flew from Hamburg, Germany to the Interjet Maintenance Center in Toluca. The remaining two units are expected to be delivered in October.
“Being a long-time A320 operator, Interjet is familiar with the unparalleled comfort, fuel efficiency and superior economics that comes with the benchmark A320 Family,” said Rafael Alonso, President of Airbus for Latin America and Caribbean. “The A321 not only provides a lower operating cost per seat but it is the best solution in its class for slot-constrained airports such as Mexico City’s Benito Juárez International Airport and Cancun International airport.”
Interjet flies to 52 destinations, 37 of which are in Mexico and 15 are international. USA: Dallas- Fort Worth, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Antonio and Orlando-Sanford. Cuba: Havana, Santa Clara and Varadero. It also flies to Bogota, San Jose Costa Rica, Guatemala and Lima.
Interjet offers the most legroom and checks up to 50 kilos of baggage at no extra cost, which can include sports equipment or pets and, in Priority Class, up to 75 kilos of baggage. All its flights offer complimentary snacks and beverages, a woman – only restroom, as well as a permanent discount for older adults
