Mammoth Freighters Expands Boeing 777 Conversion Network to China

Mammoth Freighters has selected STAECO as a new maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) partner to establish Boeing 777 passenger-to-freighter conversion capability in Qingdao, China, expanding its global conversion network to meet growing demand across the Asia-Pacific cargo market.

The first conversion line is scheduled to open in September 2026 at STAECO’s new facility, with a second line expected to become operational in early 2027. The first aircraft, a Boeing 777-200LR owned by Jetran, is expected to enter the conversion program later this year. The new facility complements Mammoth’s existing conversion operations in Fort Worth, Texas, and Manchester, United Kingdom.

Jens Steinhagen, Senior Vice President of Program Management at Mammoth Freighters, said: “We are extremely pleased to partner with STAECO to bring Mammoth’s 777 freighter conversion program to China and the broader Asia-Pacific cargo market. This agreement reflects Mammoth’s commitment to providing operators with convenient, in-region conversion capability through a veteran conversion MRO.”

The expansion follows FAA certification of Mammoth’s 777-200LRMF freighter conversion earlier this year. The company expects the first converted aircraft to enter commercial service this fall with Qatar Airways and DHL, while work continues toward certification of the 777-300ERMF and validation by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
